Portrait Of Heston Blumenthal

Today I was photographing The Princes Countryside Fund charity clay pigeon shoot at West Wycombe Park, Buckinghamshire. One of the ambassadors of the fund is Heston Blumenthal, a cookery legend.

I asked Heston if I could do a few portraits of him before we went into the house for lunch and he obliged giving me a couple of minutes. I spotted a small archway on the West Wycombe Estate where the light was great and did a few half length pictures of him, then I spotted this magnificent statue and asked him if I could photograph him underneath it. ‘Of course’ came the reply. Here’s the picture!

I will soon finish the rest of the pictures from today and will post a few on here soon.

Love a hairy dog? You have not seen anything yet!

Recently I was at a farmers market and saw a lady I knew struggling with her bags. Being a gentleman I though I would ask if she wanted a lift home with her groceries. On taking me up on the offer of a lift I was greeted by this hound of a dog bounding towards me to lick me to death in her driveway. Well, anyone who knows me knows how much I love to photograph animals, namely dogs,  so I could see a great opportunity wagging its tail in front of me.

‘What type of dog is this?’ I asked whist negotiating how to protect the eggs in the top of one of the bags.

‘It’s a Lagotta Romagnolo’ I was told, ‘an Italian breed of dog with her winter coat still on’

I said I would love to take some photographs of the dog and the lady said that was fine as long as it was soon as she was soon to be clipped now the weather has finally warmed up.

So last week I met up with the lady and her dog. I shot a few daylight images in the window as the dog sat in an armchair then we popped to a local field for a few pictures.

Sir Charles Napier Pre-Wedding Shoot

Sometimes my couples have to travel a little further for their pre wedding shoot and last Saturday was no exception. Jonathan and Nicolette flew in from Hong Kong on the morning of our meeting and we met at the renowned restaurant Sir Charles Napier near Chinnor in Oxfordshire. The Charles Napier perches on top of the Chilterns and afforded me some fantastic rural backgrounds for the shoot. Little did I know but Jonathan and Nicolette had been planning their wardrobe for some time and bought new clothes for the shoot before leaving Hong Kong.

I love the contrast  between their bright clothing and the muted colours of the English countryside. Their wedding will take place at Wycombe Abbey where Nicolette studied later in the year with their reception taking place at the Mandarin Oriental in Knightsbridge.

It’s going to be fantastic!

#MerryChristmas to you all

The Blacksmith of Blackwell, Derbyshire

After my shoot with The Farming Life Centre based in Blackwell, Derbyshire I headed across the courtyard to see if I could take some pictures of Darren the resident Blacksmith. Darren informed me he has had a few photographers take pictures of him over the years and I can see why – I could have spent all day chatting to him and photographing him working at his forge and anvil. But with Mrs Lord in the car and a 3 hour journey back home I could only spend about 10 minutes with him and his resident cat!

Here are some of my favourite pictures from the shoot.

Prince’s Countryside Fund charity clay shoot – West Wycombe estate

Earlier this week I photographed a charity clay pigeon shoot for The Prince’s Countryside Fund hosted by Sir Edward Dashwood at his West Wycombe home. E J Churchill put on a superb display of targets for the guests to shoot in the grounds of West Wycombe Estate. After a breakfast served in the hall the 9 teams had an eventful morning shooting in their teams of 4 guns over the various stands. England rugby star Phil Vickery, the new ambassador of The Prince’s Countryside Fund was there demonstrating his sharp shooting eye and support to the other guests and the PCF.

West Wycombe House – an ideal venue for a clay shoot or a wedding!

With teams from various industries that support the PCF competing the final winners were Samworth Brothers and runners up Dovecote Park who had their awards presented to them by Sir Edward Dashwood, Phil Vickery and Managing Director of Waitrose, Mark Price. With other notable figures in the teams it really was a great fund raising event for the PCF and raising awareness to help rural communities across the UK.

Fabian Perez, Marlow

Last Friday I was at the private view for the Fabian Perez exhibition at the Lemongrove gallery, Marlow. The gallery was packed with fans of Fabian hoping to see him and in some cases get him to sign a painting they had just purchased. The gallery was so full I decided to remove my lens shade just to give me a few more inches of space! Well, it goes without saying the evening was a great success and a most enjoyable event. To see more of Fabian’s work at the Lemongrove galleries please click here.

A candid portrait I grabbed of Fabian in front of one of his paintings.

When the Major of London came to our home…

Congratulation to Boris for continuing to be Major of London for a second term. These images from a shoot I did with Boris a few years ago when he was MP for Henley on Thames. We were living next door the the South Oxfordshire Conservative office in the lovely market town of Watlington where they are based and I asked one of Boris’s right hand men if I could photograph him for 10 minutes. These are the results of a most memorable shoot with Boris.
